2008 YEAR END AWARDS PROGRAM

To be eligible for Year End Awards for BREA the following rules apply (click here for a .PDF copy or click here for a Word copy of the 2008 BREA Year End Award Rules):

  1. The competitor must be a member in good standing at the time of the competition. If the competitor has not joined BREA before the competition, his/her placing at that competition will not count towards Year-End Awards.

  2. Senior competitors must have completed at least four (4) hours and Junior competitors must have completed at least six (6) hours of volunteer service to the organization by November 1st of the current year.  The Volunteer Chairperson will maintain a master list of volunteer hours. It will be noted in the Points-to-Date standings whether the volunteer requirement has been met.  All riders must complete the volunteer hour requirement for Year-End Awards on their own. It is the responsibility of the member to send his/her signed Volunteer Hours Record in to the Volunteer Chairperson if he/she wishes to compete for Year End Awards as soon as he/she has completed four (4) or six (6) hours.  Volunteer hours may also be submitted using the Volunteer Hours Submission Form below.

  3. For any hours performed beyond four (4) if a senior and six (6) if a junior, the member will receive a voucher at the rate of five dollars ($5) for each four (4) hours performed that may be used as cash for entries to BREA sponsored competitions and for membership dues.  The vouchers can be used to pay for up to half of BREA show entries and/or BREA membership dues. Any person can perform volunteer work for a BREA member to earn these vouchers.

  4. Members are not required to compete in a BREA-sponsored show to be eligible for a Year-End Award. However, if a member does not compete in a BREA-sponsored show in the current year, that member must complete and additional four (4) volunteer hours (for a total of eight (8) if a senior and ten (10) if a junior volunteer hours) to be eligible for a Year-End Award. The BREA-sponsored events for 2007 are scheduled for May 3, June 28, August 9, and October 11. All the sponsored events will be held at Green Hill Park Equestrian Center in Salem, VA.

  5. Points will be accepted from BREA-sponsored, BREA-sanctioned, or any USEA-recognized competitions.  Any unrecognized Combined Test or Horse Trial in USEA Area II or Area III is considered “sanctioned”. Points from BREA-sponsored competitions will automatically be tallied by the Points Chairperson.  Points tallied from recognized and “sanctioned” competitions are the responsibility of the member.  A completed Points Validation Form signed by the Show Secretary must be received by the Points Chairperson within thirty (30) days of the competition. Members can mail show results printed from a website or obtained from the show secretary to the Points Chairperson within thirty (30) days of the competition.  The printed results must include all of the following information:  (1) show date, (2) horse trials or combined test, (3) division, (4) final placing, and (5) number of starters. All points must be submitted to the Points Chairperson by December 1 of the current year.  Points may also be submitted using the Points Validation Submission Form below.

If the total number of starters in a class is more than seven (7), then twice the above points are awarded.
If you are the sole competitor in a class, you will earn five (5) points for completing the event.
Riders completing a USEA-recognized horse trials with a final placing of seventh (7th) or lower will earn five (5) points.

  1. Year End Awards will be presented to the rider accumulating the greatest number of points on a single horse at a single level.  Therefore, if a horse and rider pair move up from one level to the next during the year, the two sets of points are accumulated separately and the pair could win awards at both levels.

  2. Six Year End Awards may be presented at each level for each division.  These levels include Green (two feet), Beginner Novice (two feet six inches), Novice, Training, Preliminary, and Intermediate.  Each level may be divided into two divisions: Junior (age 18 and under) and Senior.  A Championship and a Reserve Championship will be awarded to the first (1st) and second (2nd) place riders respectively, with ribbons awarded for the remaining places.  A Junior High Point Award, and Senior High Point Award, and a Horse High Point Award will be presented to the respective parties who accumulate the most total points during the year. Ribbons only will be awarded for the Cross Rail division.

  3. Once a horse and rider combination has been awarded the Championship for Green, Beginner Novice, or Novice level, that pair will not be eligible for the Championship at the same level in the future.

  4. Points will be accumulated from December 1st through November 30th.  Awards will be presented at the Year End Awards Banquet.

  5. In case of a tie, the award will go to the rider with the greatest number of first place points.
